My Reaction To The Coursework Brief
My Reaction To The Coursework Brief
As soon as I got the coursework brief I instantly knew what I wanted to do and how I wanted it to look. My head was buzzing! Visions of images, camera shots and angles were rushing around, it was such a rush. I think I'm more looking forward to the actual production of my coursework and the idea of going outside and physically filming my project with friends and family excites me π. I even created a playlist to enable me envision scenes and help inspire me.
What 3 things are you most looking forward to in this project?
I'm really looking forward to directing because I really like having ideas in my head that I know only I can control how they appear on screen. Also I think that being the director, the editor as well as participating in the project itself (on screen π¬) will definitely gain me more confidence and give me a better understanding of the television industry. And lastly I think that the planning will be really fun because I enjoy being organised and planning through all of my ideas and sequencing them into how I envision them to appear together.
What are you most concerned about in the process?
One of the things that I am concerned about for this process is my performance as an actress. My experiences in drama activities and taking part in extracurricular productions, such as Global Rock, I think are enough to give me the confidence I need to believe in myself. Another minor concern I have is the scheduling. I have so many ideas and I'm worried that the time given to me won't be enough. In addition to this, cost is another worry of mine for this process. I don't wish to spend mega bucks on my coursework however saying this I also don't want the outcome to be utter cheddar cheeseπ .
What 2 things do you want to learn/develop/achieve in this project?
The first thing that I want to develop for this project is the skills of editing. I'm afraid that when it comes to editing the footage, my brain will implode and do a back flip π. The second thing I wish to develop is my acting abilities. I really enjoyed portraying characters and bringing them to life when I took part in Global Rock, etc. Whenever I used to watch a television show with an empowering female role, I always wished that I could grow up to be like her (it wasn't until later on in my childhood I realized that one cannot simply ).
Initial ideas of: Genre/Sub genre/Plot/Character/Narrative elements.
For my project I have chosen the hybrid genre of Supernatural Drama, in which I intend to include all the codes and conventions of both. The reason why I chose this hybrid is because, like many, I very much enjoy the elements of the supernatural, aka witches, vampires, angels and demons submerged into (what I call OUR (human) daily lives) drama. In addition to this I also think that there are a lot of already existing products of this genre and in which I, myself, have binge-watched over and over again in order to immerse my brain into the fantastical world which is the supernatural. To many, the supernatural is inciting, due to its unexpectedness and the idea of powers and abilities. Take witches for example, they can harness the Earth's power and draw power from others. They're in touch with mother nature and they believe in the goodness and well being of all living things!π I don't know about you but that's pretty darn cool if you ask me. Take Sarah Bailey from The Craft movie (1996), She and three other girls harness energy and combine their powers to become stronger and protect one another. Granted, if you've ever seen The Craft then it doesn't end well for some. But again that's what makes in interesting.
Anyways, my little obsession over π.
My first visualization that keeps repeating itself over and over again is of two 'superior beings' with unusual clothing, standing upon the rubble of an abandoned castle or graveyard. The second is of a victim (mainly male) running through a forest covered in blood stains or possibly with gashing wounds from his neck, legs and chest (not to be too grim π).
When I think about the two 'superiors' I often imagine them vampires as they're known for their predatory instincts and actions. Not to mention when I imagine them in a graveyard, it connotes the dead as well as the undead. The typical location for a vampire.
I have this mini plot idea that the two vamps are hunting the male victim however there could potentially be tension between them? I'm not sure yet. Perhaps the two vampires are related so there is could be this sense of family expectations of one which they don't aspire to and the other doesn't like it or perhaps there is a clear age and maturity gap even though they're both over a thousand years old.
For my female vamp, I (without a doubt) picture a 'Queen of the Damned' type of seductive temptress. Someone with a bit of rebelliousness and determination for what she wants.
My male vamp is mainly inspired by the cruel nature of 'Klaus Mikaelson' as well as the honour and morality of 'Elijah Mikaelson'. I trust most you are familiar with The Originals, if not what are you doing with your lives?! You must watch it! Anyways, I intend to merge these two personalities to create something more 'real' from the demonic world. A vicious monster, yet capable of slight humanity and compassion.
Group work? Individual?
I think that working independently will be more beneficial as I believe that, because of the schedule, I won't have to rely on others for anything and then I can edit and alter all of the footage to look exactly how I want it to. Bit of a perfectionist ngl π. However saying this, others taking part in this project and I have agreed to help each other out with various bits and pieces and are willing to guide one another.
But all our work is our own and we won't be copying or hijacking anyone else's ideas.
Who are you going to involve?
Don't fear my little chickens, I have already given this A BIT of thought.
As I will be playing the role of the younger vampire, the male vampire will be portrayed by my uncle, due to my relationship with him being that of a mirror image of the two blood suckers (minus being immortal) π. I haven't yet set up auditions for the role of the victim however I plan to do so very swiftly.
Stay tuned my little blood suckers! π
